According to the World Health Organization about 1,6 billion of world's population was overweight and at least 400 million adults were obese in 2005. At least 20 million children under age of 5 years were overweight globally in 2005. The WHO projects that about 2,3 billion adults will be overweight and more that 700 million of people will be obese by 2015. Excessive body weight has become a serious issue in the last few decades and is associated with variety of diseases such and cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, certain types of cancer (breast and colon cancers), etc. However, besides serious health consequences overweight and obesity are also a greatly affecting quality of life and mental state of people with excessive body weight. The majority of people, especially young women, are very unhappy because of their outer appearance and often suffer from low self esteem and self confidence.

Each person is unique and has different causes of excessive body weight and for that reason different weight loss programs have different effects in each person. Many people are desperately trying to lose weight with varying successes for many years, while suffering of overweight and obese people has been taken advantage by numerous companies who offer variety of products which promise fast results with minimal exertion. However, many of weight loss products are not effective and often only empties one's wallet not to mention that some weight loss products represent serious health risks. Thus all who wants to lose weight has to be very well informed and keep in mind that there is no shortcuts. After all, excessive body weight does not occur overnight and for that reason effective weight loss takes time and requires a lot of discipline next to proper diet and regular exercise what is still the most effective way to lose weight.
