Maintaining Normal Body Weight

Losing weight is a great challenge itself but maintaining the normal body weight once achieving it may be even more difficult. After finishing the weight loss program many people soon regain the lost pounds and in some cases even gain more than having when starting to lose weight. For that reason all who wants to maintain the normal body weight when reaching it has to proceed with changed diet and lifestyle but not to continue with losing weight further otherwise it might lead to another extreme - underweight which also represents serious health risks. However, underweight after achieving normal body weight is much rarer than regain of weight.

Once losing the excess pounds one must maintain a healthy balance between intake of energy and its use. However, if the intake of energy is higher than its use the body begins to store it as fat and for that reason many people regain the lost pounds after finishing the weight loss program. Causes for regain of weight after finishing the weight loss program is either returning to former lifestyle with unhealthy diet and inadequate physical activity or is a result of improper weight loss program - dramatic weight loss within a short period. For that reason successful weight loss and maintenance of normal body weight in first place require proper weight loss program which does not foresee fast weight loss and in second place permanent change of lifestyle. All who are starting to lose weight should be in first place aware that overweight does not occur over night or within days and for that reason excessive pounds can be lost within few days effectively. For permanent results and healthy weight loss experts recommend not lose more than two pounds per week.

Besides improper weight loss program many people return to their old lifestyle after finishing the weight loss program what is one of the leading causes of regain of excess pounds. To lose weight and to keep it in normal ranges is required permanent change of lifestyle. When reaching the normal body weight is important to continue to avoid foods high in fat and sugars although is not necessary to continue dieting. A desert, chocolate and a hotdog once in a while will do no harm but one should be very careful not to return to the old eating habits. Besides paying attention to proper diet is also very important to be adequately physically active in the future.
